Mamikon Yengibarian
Sculptor Mamikon Yengibarian uses the purity of the line and sphere to express a range of human emotion. His works often convey the individual’s relationship to society or nature, evoking feelings of vulnerability and loneliness, as well as humour and hopeful joy. Mamikon has participated in the Venice Biennale and is becoming known for his striking Tumbling Doll sculptures in the Four Seasons Hotel. Having lived in Hungary for nearly 20 years, he won the Derkovits prize, one of Hungary’s highest artistic honours.
"In sculture I prefer silence, just as laconism in literature. What inspires me to create scupltures? There is one voice, which is similar to the ringing bell, it comes from up above. And what is the theme? - The organic world, the human being with his problems and pursuits. What material? I love working with propolis (or bee glue); it's an undescribable feeling and I admire the aroma :)"
