"Spider City" - Mamikon Yengibarian
In Yengibarian’s “Spider City” installation a small lonely boy faces a giant spider. The spider in this case is not necessarily a predator, but with its many legs and the web that it weaves aptly represents the complexities of life in today’s world. The exhibition reflects on the complexities of modern life, with focus on issues of identity and isolation in the urban environment.
Armenian-born Mamikon Yengibarian has been a member of the Hungarian art community for nearly 20 years. The Derkovits scholarship is amongst the many awards he has received. Yengibarian has gained an international reputation for his popular ‘Tumbling Dolls’ sculptures in the Four Seasons Hotel Budapest Gresham Palace.
